About Sherry
Sherry Gay-Dagnogo is the epitome of a faithful public servant and fighter for justice. Sherry is a former Detroit City Council staffer for the legendary Councilman Clyde Cleveland and the Honorable Alberta Tinsley-Talabi. Sherry is also a former Science Teacher, Michigan State Representative, and current Detroit Public School Board Member who has built a reputation for fighting against injustices and inequalities. As a Michigan State Representative, Sherry’s greatest legacy is criminal justice reform, with the passage of Michigan’s Clean Slate and Good Moral Character Laws. As a legislator, Sherry was the first woman to serve as the Michigan Legislative Detroit Caucus Chair and the first Urban Education Advisory Chair. She also served as Executive Vice-Chair of the Michigan Legislative Black Caucus, Vice-Chair of Financial Services, and on the Insurance, Families Children, and Seniors Committees. Sherry has received numerous awards for her commitment to public service, including the Michigan Democratic Black Caucus Annette Rainwater Grassroots Organizing Award, John Conyers Trailblazer Award, and the Legal Aid and Defenders Association Award.
